Karen McGarrett
Harpist — Houston, Texas
Karen McGarrett has been playing for over 17 years. She began as a pedal
harpist, & has since included the Celtic & wire strung harp. She currently
teaches private lessons and plays weddings, receptions, & other special events.
Karen performs on a maple Dusty Strings professional model lever harp. Because
of its traditional size, it is light & can be positioned on a balcony, platform,
or a small nook. She is also available to play outdoors. In 1997 Karen recorded
the CD “Banish Misfortune” receiving outstanding reviews including the Folk Harp
Journal which says “…a treat from the moment you open the package… ”. She is
familiar with all types of harps and styles of playing. Karen’s repertoire
centers on classical & Celtic styles, & also includes show tunes & popular
music, along with a bit of country and Latin music.
